Bentonite is an absorbent phyllosilicate clay consisting monstly of montmorillonite. It was named by wilbur c.knight in 1898. The diffrent type of bentinite are named as named as sodium[Na], Calcium[Ca]. Benotonite usally forms from weathering of volcanic ash, most often in the presence of water, How ever the term Bentonite, aswell as similar clay called tinstein, has been used to describe clay beds of uncertain origin. for Industrial purpose two maint calss of bentonite exists. Sodium and Calcium. Bentonite are two type namely
Sodium Bentonite has multiple use we manufacture these three grade in our plant.
Pelletizing: Bentonite is used as a binding agent in the production of iron ore pellets. Through this process, iron ore fines are converted into spherical pellets, suitable as feed material in blast furnaces for pig iron production, or in the production of direct reduction iron (DRI).
During boring for pile, the side of the bore hole is subjected to various types of forces & pressure like active earth pressure, overburden pressure, hydrostatic pressure, pore pressure due to underground water, etc. due to which the side of bore becomes unstable and start collapsing if the soil strata is weak.
In order to stabilize the side of bore the supporting fluid is to be used to counter the above pressure. The commonly USED SUPPORTING FLUID FOR STABILIZING IS BENTONITE.
Bentonite is used in drilling fluids to lubricate and cool the cutting tools, to remove cuttings, and to help prevent blowouts. Much of bentonite's usefulness in the drillingand geotechnical engineering industry comes from its unique rheological properties.
Drilling: Another conventional use of bentonite is as a mud constituent for oil and water well drilling. Its roles are mainly to seal the borehole walls, to remove drill cuttings and to lubricate the cutting head.
